Why am I being asked to opt-in again? What is GDPR?
On the 25th May the biggest change in data protection laws in a generation comes into force when the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) are adopted into law in the UK.
What is GDPR?
GDPR is the European Union's new data privacy law. The regulations standardise data protection laws across the EU and give individuals more control over their personal data and ensures companies collect, process and store this information in a secure manner.
Who is affected?
Any organisation that collects, holds or uses data about individuals inside the European Union is subject to the new law.
What do I have to do?
As an individual there is nothing that you need to do, the efforts to comply with GDPR are being carried out by the organisations that are impacted by the change to the law. You will have noticed that your inbox will have been full of emails asking you to re-subscribe or opt-in to continue to receive newsletters and marketing materials, if you wish to continue to receive these emails simply follow the instructions, if you don't then you can simply ignore them.
Why and I being asked to re-subscribe to marketing emails?
The new law states that an organisation must have explicit consent from an individual to be able to communicate with them and must be able to provide proof of that consent. At IDSystems we are confident that every person on our marketing database has already opted-in to receive our emails and marketing materials, but we think it is best practice to give you the choice again.

What information does IDSystems collect, process and use?
In the process of operating our business IDSystems collects, processes and uses a number of pieces of personal data. Where we use the data for marketing purposes the basis for processing this data is consent. Where we use the data for the purposes of preparing a quotation, drawings or further product information we have a legitimate interest as a basis for processing this data. Where we use the data for the purposes of compiling an order, completing an installation or providing an after-sales support service we have a contractual obligation for processing this data.
Where can I learn more about GDPR?
There are numerous resources offering advice and support to organisations on how to comply with these regulations.
