Contemporary 70's house extension

Products: theEDGE2.0, fixed frame gable-end glazing, rooflights.

Having returned home after years of working abroad the owners of this 1970s house engaged Harvey Norman Architects to extend the property to make better use of the internal space and to breakdown the divide between the house and the garden.

The design centred on a single storey pitched roof extension with large sliding doors and fixed frame gable end glazing that transformed the layout of the home, creating a large open plan living space that included a kitchen, dining and lounge space.

After discussions between the architects, the owners and IDSystems theEDGE2.0 ultra-slim sliding doors (with incredibly slim 20mm sightlines) were chosen to run across the back of the extension and connect the house with the garden. The doors feature a triple track design allowing all three doors to be moved across the opening, offering flexibility of use and room layout.

To create a contemporary open space and to maximise the amount of light that flooded the room fixed frame angled glazing was incorporated above the sliding doors, whilst large opening roof lights were incorporated into the roof design to bring pockets of light to the room from above.
