Innovative, light filled new-build
Products: SUNFLEX SF55c composite bifold doors
When the owners inherited a small family bungalow in suburban Kent, their dream was to transform the site into a contemporary, light filled home.
With the site on an east-west axis, the key to any new development was always going to be how to fill the house with natural light - and the innovative solution designed by OB Architecture was a glazed central atrium that runs the entire length of the house.
Each wing of the house, connected to the central space is then almost completely glazed, with a combination of windows, fixed frames and SUNFLEX SF55c composite bifold doors - with internal glazing, including the provision of balustrades on the first floor.
The combination of the glazing, along with cedar cladding and white render breaks the size of the new house up, and allows it to more comfortably blend into the surroundings of single storey homes, whilst from the inside the bright, open spaces are further enhanced by the white walls and the soft feel of the interior timber elements, including the cladding of the SUNFLEX SF55c.
The use of external aluminium and internal timber finishes to the glazing systems provided the perfect contrast throughout the house. The hard wearing and durable aluminium worked perfectly with the render and classing on the outside, while the visual appeal of the timber and its softer lines on the interior perfectly complemented the decor and finishes.
The eye-catching, innovative nature of the finished house made it a popular choice for feature within magazines, and the whole build process was captured by the TV cameras for More4's Building the Dream.
